Go ThreepioI had forgotten about this but saw it today for the first time in years. Cracks me up. The fact that fussy ol' Threepio could sport such a package just makes it all the better. Snopes.com has an explainer that doesn't really explain it. I don't buy the "a piece fell off the costume and was caught at the right instant" story, but whatever.

I've pre-ordered the trilogy DVDs that are coming out this fall. No matter what, after I buy these and replace the VHS copies that I have, I fully intend to never buy these films in any other format. Not a high-definition blu-ray DVD that will probably come out in 2007.

And not the six-disc super special edition with even more tweaks by George Lucas, that's for damn sure.
